~:The Drowned Bride of Gooseberry Cove:~

December 30, 2007.
Medium: Corel Painter 10.
Some miles up the coast from my home is Gooseberry Cove, a scenic but often foggy spot. In 1834, the Irish ship Astrea went down off this rocky coast, killing 251 passengers bound for Quebec. One of the victims who washed ashore was a young girl on her way to marry her sweetheart. She has been seen or heard many times roaming the cove and calling his name. The landscape in this picture is based on an actual photograph of the cove taken by my daughter .
