Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans, with her snake, Zombi. She was born in 1794 in Vieux Carre, and her father was said to be a wealthy white planter, while her mother was of mixed blood. She died in 1881, and visitors to her tomb still leave offerings and pleas for help.
