Back in 2001, I was approached to draw an unusual picture. My requester was a bit hesitant, almost apologetic, and described a romantic scene between two of the X-Men's most bitter enemies - Wolverine and Sabretooth. I must admit I smiled to myself when I heard the description, but I felt pleasantly challenged to translate this scenario into a picture.
After I had finished, I uploaded the picture into my Elfwood fanart gallery, and there was a veritable firestorm of horror from a certain contingent of commenters. The most rabidly vocal of the commenters were mainly anonymous, of course, lacking the courage of their convictions to even identify themselves with a valid email address which would enable their comments to be answered privately. Little did they know, however, that I receive the IP address of each and every commenter in my email, and curiosity leads me to investigate where in the world these comments are coming from. I doubt if it would surprise anyone if I were to reveal where the worst originate from.
A couple of years ago, a busy young moderator took it upon herself to launch a crusade to get the picture removed from my gallery. Now, this young moderator made the mistake of telling her plan to another Elfwood artist, behind my back, and that other artist reported the circumstances to me. The misinformed moderator insisted, in her almighty omnipotence, that the picture was breaking Elfwood rules, that it was obscene, that it portrayed a sex act between two men.
Filth, like beauty, sometimes lies in the eye of the beholder. If you wish to look at the picture, you will see that one man is kissing the chin of the other man. No naughty bits are showing, and they most certainly are NOT engaging in sex. The moderator told my informant that the picture was already queued for removal, and that it would be gone shortly. That was two years ago, and the picture is still in my gallery. That moderator is undoubtedly a liar, who presumed that she could simply insist that the picture be removed, and it would be done. She is also a hypocrite of the worst kind, because while she claims that a picture of one man kissing the chin of another is obscene, apparently a bare-breasted character in her own gallery is not.
